Central Engineering Facilities (CEF) is the core of main engineering activities of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE). CEF is responsible for formulating, planning, designing, developing, and renovating of projects and installations at AERE. CEF provides engineering and technical services to various research activities and civil construction works of AERE. Besides it carries out operation and maintenance of utility services like power supply, water supply, air conditioning, and ventilation, gas network etc.

Aims and Objectives
- Planning and design of electrical and mechanical systems
- Preparation of specification and tender documents for new projects in AERE and BMRE of existing facilities
- Study of any problem or issue
- Design , develop and fabricate specialized items of equipment as per requirements of laboratories.
- Give technical services to the institutes and laboratories of AERE in the maintenance of all major equipment in Isotope production laboratory, reactor, gamma radiation facility and other facilities in electrical and mechanical systems and also carry out jobs in machining, welding and sheet metal involved in such work.
- Carry out routine maintenance and repair in electrical, mechanical, and civil in AERE.
- Operate the utilities in AERE : Electrical sub station, pumps and water supply system.
Achievements
CEF provides technical cooperation to different on going projects in AERE. Following are some of the important projects where CEF was involved.
- Establishment of the commercial irradiator (GammaTech) in Chittagong
- Research reactor utilization: Establishment of Tc-99 m Generator Production Facilities in INST
- TRIGA reactor Decay Tank etc. reinstallation project
- Renovation works of Beach Sand Exploitation Center, Cox’s Bazzar.
- Establishment of Central Radioactive Waste Processing & Storage Facility, AERE, Savar.
- IAEA Model project, Sustainable Technologies for Managing Radioactive Waste: task Radium Conditioning.
- Establishment of the Secondary Stage Dosimetry lab (SSDL). INST
- Studies on sand and silt movement in the Karnafuly river by radioactive tracer technology.
